DoE issues health alert on air pollution

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2024 (BSS) - The Department of Environment (DoE) is issuing health advisory as air pollution in Dhaka city often reaches hazardous levels.

As per the directives of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury, data on air pollution is being disseminated regularly on the website of the DoE, said a press release here today.

In a message published under the title of 'Air Pollution Health Protection Advice', if the air pollution level in Dhaka is over 300 on the Air Quality Index (AQI), people are advised to wear mask as they are considered to be at risk.

Besides, sick people, children and elderly people will be advised not to go out of their house unnecessarily or other advice will be issued considering the level of pollution.

The alert will be withdrawn if the air pollution level is less than 300 on the AQI.

Monitoring data of 16 Continuous Air Quality Monitoring System (CAMS) in other departmental and industrial cities of the country, including Dhaka, date is being disseminated regularly on the DoE's website through real time automation system.
