DHAKA, Feb 22, 2024 (BSS) - The Shaheed Dibosh and International Mother Language Day were simultaneously observed in Bangladesh missions abroad in a befitting manner on the day 'February 21', according to the releases received here today.
Marking the day, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC observed the 'Shaheed Dibosh and the International Mother Language Day' with due solemnity on Wednesday.
Permanent mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York, Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York, Bangladesh High Commissions in Ottawa (Canada), Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Mumbai (India), Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen (Denmark), Consulate General of Bangladesh in Istanbul (Turkey), Bangladesh Embassy in the Netherlands, Bangladeshi Embassy in Yangon (Myanmar), Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto (Canada), Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico and Consulate General of Bangladesh in Jeddah arranged special programmes aiming to pay homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement in 1952 at the beginning of the day's programmes.
The programmes included hoisting of the national flag at half-mast, reading out the messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on mission premises, observing one-minute silence in memory of all the great language martyrs of '52, holding discussions, screening documentary on language martyrs and offering special prayers, milad-mahfil and doa-munajat.
The representatives of the respective missions commemorated the martyrs who dedicated their lives to protecting the mother tongue and paid tribute to them, particularly Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabbar, Shafiur and others for their supreme sacrifice in the movement.
They also remembered the extraordinary contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to organizing the language movement in 1948.
Special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the Father of the Nation and all language martyrs and for the continued progress, peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.
