DHAKA, Feb 27, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Open University (BOU) and United Help for Children with Disabilities (UHCD) Foundation of the US today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to forge a collaborative partnership to promote inclusive education and raise awareness about disabilities.
BOU registrar Dr Md Shafiqul Alam and Founder and Executive Director of UHCD Foundation Khaled M Shahriar signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions at function on BOU campus in Gazipur for the next three years, said a BOU press release.
Under the MOU the both institutions will develop and implement specialized non-formal and formal education programmes for people with disabilities.
BOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Humayun Akhter was present at the MoU signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Humayun Akhter said, "Through this partnership, BOU will leverage its country-wide extensive network to foster awareness and provide educational opportunities for uplifting the living standard of the differently able people."
UHCD Foundation's Executive Director Khaled M Shahriar said, "The USA-based UHCD is dedicated to supporting children with disabilities, particularly those living below the poverty threshold."
With a focus on providing holistic assistance, including education, counseling, and access to resources, UHCD aimed at creating a disability-friendly environment in Bangladesh, he added.
As per the MOU, the UHCD Foundation will provide expert guidance, develop tailored course materials, and deploy skilled personnel to BOU to support the implementation of specialized educational initiatives.
Besides, BOU will offer essential infrastructure support, furnish educational materials, and host specialized seminars aimed at fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange.
BOU Pro Vice Chancellor (academic) Professor Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, Dean of Open School Professor Dr Sabina Yeasmin, and faculty members Dr Md Mizanoor Rahman and Dr Mahmuda Sawgat were, among others, present on the ceremony.
