DHAKA, Feb 28, 2024 (BSS)- Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen today said every doctor must have ensure that no patient is deprived of medical care in the hospital.
“I have a responsibility to protect the doctors, but I also have to take the responsibility for providing good services to the patients,” he said.
The minister was addressing a hands on training programme organized by Dhaka Medical College (DMC) and North America Medical Association at DMC here.
“As I have a responsibility towards the doctors, I have an equal responsibility for the patients,” Dr Sen said adding “I am taking the both responsibilities, but every doctor must have ensured no patient is deprived of medical care in the hospital."
About the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, the health minister said five-bed burn unit was started by Bangabandhu. Now the unit is now turned in an institute with 500 beds at the initiative of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Thus, we can definitely improve the quality of healthcare in Bangladesh with everyone's cooperation,” he said.
The health minister appreciated the devotion of the intern doctors of DMC in providing health services in government hospitals saying they are working tirelessly round the clock.
Later, the minister handed over medical equipment to different health centers donated by North America Medical Association.
In the afternoon, Dr Samanta Lal Sen joined a discussion at BIRDEM Hospital marking the World Diabetic Day.
Address the occasion the minister expressed his concern over increasing the number of diabetic patient in the country day by day.
There are about 1.30 crore diabetic patients in Bangladesh and it may rise to 2.20 crore by 2035, the minister said calling for creating massive awareness about diabetics from city to rural level.
Bangladesh Diabetic Samity (BDS) secretary general Professor Md Saifuddin addressed the discussion with BDS president and National Professor AK Azad in the chair.
