SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 29, 2024 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen today said currently 29,561 doctors are working in government hospitals across the country.

"A total of 29,561 graduate doctors are now working at different government hospitals across the country", said the minister while responding to a query raised by independent lawmaker M Naser Shahriar Zahedi of Jenaidah-2 during the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

In addition to this, he said the number of working graduate nurses is 6650-where 3904 are qualified with BSC in Nursing (Basic) , 1597 are BSC in public health nursing (post basic) and 1149 are BSC in Nursing (post basic).

Even the public hospitals have only five working pharmacists.

At the same time, the minister said the government will shut down all the illegal hospitals and diagnostic centers across the country.

"With the help of the lawmakers, the government will shut down all the illegal hospitals and diagnostic centers", the minister told the parliament while responding to a supplementary question raised by chief whip of the opposition in parliament Mujibul Huq of Kishorganj-3 at the House here.
