DHAKA, March 5, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed one Al Amin, who was languishing in jail posing as convict Shipu Miah for only Taka 20,000 in a sabotage case, on three-day remand in a fraud case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akteruzzaman passed the order as police produced Al Amin before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.
According to the case documents, Al Amin used to work as a ward boy at a drug rehabilitation clinic situated in the Sanarpar area in the capital. Clinic owner Feroz one day took him to the lawyer's chamber. Then, they told Al Amin to surrender before court as one Shipu Miah for his bail hearing, promising to give him Taka 20,000.
Lured by the money, Al Amin surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan, posing as Shipu Miah. The court, however, scrapped Shipu's bail plea and sent the fake Shipu to jail.
Al Amin was convicted and sentenced to 2.5 years of jail in the sabotage case. But recently, while, prison authorities tried to create an online database for the inmates, they found out that Shipu Miah is actually Al Amin and his father's name is Jalal Bepari.
Al Amin, in court on March 4, confessed to taking part in the falsification of money, making the concerned bench officer to file a fraud case against him, Shipu Miah and Al Amin's boss Feroz.
