NARAYANGANJ, March 5, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced four people to death for murdering a 10-year-old-boy after abduction in Rupganj five years back.
District Additional and Session Judge Umme Saraban Tahura handed down the verdict to Shahin, 35, hailed from Mongolkhali area in Rupganj upazila, Alamgir, 27, an inhabitant in Balainagar area, Anik Chandra Das, 27 of Baniadi area and Ashik Chandra Das, 30, a resident in the same area of Rupganj upazila.
According to the prosecution, on June 5 in 2018 the boy Joyonto Chandra Das was disappeared from Baniadi area of the upazila. The next morning Joyonto's father Chaitanya Chandra Das received a mobile call that asked ransom for Tk five lakh. And in the afternoon, police recovered Joyonto's body from an abandoned house in Upazila. Following the murder, Joyonto's father filed a case with Rupganj Thana accusing three people. Police pressed the charge sheet accusing five people later.
Testifying witnesses and evidence, the court gave the order in the presence of Anik while the rest were on the run. Among the five accused, one man died during the trial, said Additional Public Prosecutor Abdur Rahim.
