DHAKA, March 10, 2024 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Ministry has introduced mobile markets to sell milk, eggs, meat and fish to meet the demand for animal protein of common people at reasonable prices during the holy month of Ramadan.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman informed this while inaugurating the activities of the mobile markets at the auditorium of Department of Livestock Service (DLS) in the city.
Under the programme, people will get every liter of milk at Taka 80, one kilogram (kg) of beef at Taka 600, one kg of mutton at Taka 900, one kg of dressed broiler at Taka 250 and one dozen eggs at Taka 110.
The minister said the mobile markets will temporarily be operated at 25 places in the city and five places in permanent markets from the first Ramadan to 28 Ramadan.
The temporary mobile markets centres are-Natunbazar (Badda), Korail Bosti (Banani), Khamarbari (Firmgate), Azimpur Matrisadan (Azimpur), Gabtoli, Diabari (Uttara), Japan Garden City (Mohammadpur), Shatfeet (60-feet) Road (Mirpur), Khilgaon (near rail crossing), near secretariat (Abdul Gani Road), Segun Bagicha (Kancha Bazar), Arambag (Motijheel), Rampura, Kalshi (Mirpur), Jathrabari (in front of Maniknagar Road), Basila (Mohammadpur), Hazaribag (Sikshon), Lukas (Nakhalpara), Kamrangir Char, Mirpur-10, Kallyanpur (Jhilpara) Tejgaon, Puran Dhaka (Banga Bazar), Kakrail, Mirpur Shah Ali Bazar, Mohammadpur Krishi Market, natun Bazar (Eksho Feet) Komlapur and Kazi Alauddin Road (Anandabazar).
Abdur Rahman said pickup cooling vans will be used to sell the products. Those vans will be reached at 9 am and start selling from 10 am at every centre.
Besides, the Department of Fisheries has taken initiative to sell fish at reasonable prices at four places in Dhaka South City Corporation and four places in Dhaka North City Corporation.
The places are - Bangabandhu Chattar (Khamarbari, Firmgate, Mirpur-1 (Eidgah ground), Segunbagicha Bazar, Merul Badda Bazar, Mugdapara (Madinabag Bazar), Jathrabari, (Doyal Bhorosha Market), Motijheel (South-East Corner of Bangladesh Bank) and Polashi Mor.
In those markets, people will get one kg Rui fish at Taka 240, one kg Pangas at Taka 130, one kg Telapia at Taka 130 and one kg Pabda at Taka 330. Those mobile markets will start from tomorrow and will be continued till 15 days of holy Ramadan.
Rahman said a committee headed by an additional secretary to monitor the mobile markets has been formed. Besides, DLS, Livestock and Dairy Development Project, Bangladesh Poultry, Industries Central Council, Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association and milk processing organizations will also monitor the activities.
Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Secretary Md Selim Uddin, additional secretary ATM Mostafa Kamal, and concerned officials of the departments were present in the programme.
