DHAKA, March 10, 2024 (BSS) - State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Simeen Hussain Rimi today said the government is playing a pioneering role to flourish women leadership in the country as it increased budgetary allocation for that.
She was addressing a seminar on "Action Aid Event for the Celebration of International Women Day" organized by Action Aid Bangladesh at Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation in the capital.
Noting that half of the country's total population is women, Simeen Hussain said sustainable development cannot be possible keeping the women behind.
She said today's investment behind women will yield manifold result in future. The government is taking newer policies for creating women entrepreneurs, she added.
She said training is being provided to women at community level to make them self-reliant.
In the programme, three women were conferred with "Nasreen Smriti Padak 2024" in recognition of their contribution to stop sexual harassment, violence and child marriage and in the field of environment.
Economist and researcher Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman presented the keynote paper in the programme.
