DHAKA, March 18, 2024 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said all have to wait till tomorrow to learn about the decision on plea for BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s jail term suspension.

“This time too they (Khaleda Zia’s family) have pleaded for her permanent release and allowing them to take her abroad for treatment. I have received the file just today. I have to read it out, consider things. But the matter would be disposed of by tomorrow,” he said while talking to newsmen at his office this noon.

Anisul Huq, an eminent jurist himself, said earlier on numerous occasions he has given the legal explanations over the matter, adding “we have nothing more to do beyond the conditional suspension of Khaleda Zia’s jail term as per section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.”

The law minister said in spite of all these, Khaleda Zia’s family have filed plea identical to the first time.

“Khaleda Zia is free on two conditions, she cannot travel abroad and has to take treatment in Dhaka. She however, doesn’t need any permission for movement here (in the capital). There is opportunity to extend the tenure of suspension of her jail term. We don’t have anything else to do legally,” Huq further said.
