DHAKA, March 27, 2024 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Principal Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah today paid a courtesy call on the visiting Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at his Palace of Residence here this afternoon.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral issues including setting up Bhutanese special economic zone in Bangladesh.
In response to the meeting between the Bangladesh Prime Minister and the Bhutanese King on May 6, 2023 in London, the Bhutanese government expressed its keenness to a set up a special economic zone in Kurigram district in Bangladesh.
In continuation of that, "Bhutanese Special Economic Zone" is being built on G2G basis under the joint initiative of Bangladesh and Bhutanese governments on different mouzas on 219.64 acres of land at sadar upazila in Kurigram district.
The Bhutanese King is expected to visit the proposed "Bhutanese Special Economic Zone" in Kurigram tomorrow.
Bangladesh Prime Minister's principal secretary extended thanks to the Bhutanese government for expressing interest in building the zone in Bangladesh and gave assurance of extending all-out cooperation from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in the overall activity of Bhutan with concerned ministry and offices of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun was present during the meeting.
