DHAKA, April 24, 2024 (BSS)- The government has appointed valiant freedom fighter Mohammad Yunus as the next chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA).
An order of the Public Administration Ministry issued today said, the appointment was given on contractual basis for next three years subject to relinquishing all working relations with other organizations.
He will succeed to M Zahirul Alam Dobash, whose tenure expired today.
Hailed from village Farhadabad of Hathazari Upazila, Mohammad Yunus was a member of Bangladesh Liberation Front (Mujib Bahini) in 1971.
He was arrested with rifle by Pak Military on March 27, 1971 as he joined first encounter with Pak Naval force in Chittagong town. He escaped from Chattogram jail after two months and six days of his confinement. Later, he went to India and came back home after taking training and joined the Liberation War.
He first served in jail in 1969. In 1970 he was again arrested by Pak military and awarded nine-month rigorous imprisonment by a military court for his involvement against Pakistani statehood and cultural aggression.
In 1976 Yunus was again arrested for organizing a movement in protest against Bangabandhu killing. After four years in jail he was released on April 1, 1980.
