DHAKA, May 5, 2024 (BSS) - Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra will arrive here on Wednesday on a two-day official visit to discuss issues relating to finalise the schedule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming India visit.
Diplomatic sources told BSS today that Kwatra will start his formal official engagements on Thursday although he will arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday evening.
The Indian foreign secretary is expected to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday when he will hand over an invitation letter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to her regarding the premier's upcoming Delhi visit.
During his Dhaka visit, Kwatra will also call on Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud and will hold a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Masud-Bin-Momen to discuss issues relating to PM's visit, sources said.
Besides, diplomatic sources from New Delhi said that Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman arrives in Dhaka this evening to discuss the issues of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming Delhi visit with the Bangladesh authorities.
He will join meetings between the visiting Indian foreign secretary and Bangladesh authorities, sources said.
Sources however, confirmed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming India visit is likely to take place in July this year. It will be the first visit to India by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after the last general election held in January this year.
During the visit, different bilateral and regional issues with special focus on Teesta Water Sharing agreement are expected to dominant the meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, sources added.
