Food System Dashboard to digitize, protect all food related info: food secy

DHAKA, May 12, 2024 (BSS) - Food secretary M Ismail Hossain today said Bangladesh has introduced food system dashboard aiming to protect and digitalize all food and nutrition security related information.

 "The launch of the dashboard will ensure the right to access food-related data by all," said the Secretary while inaugurating the Bangladesh Food System Dashboard at Hotel Ruposhi Bangla here.

"The dashboard contains various information on food availability and nutrition which will facilitate rapid policy formulation and research activities," he added.

The system will help to know about overall food management scenarios along with individual division and district from any places and it will be very much useful for food research and taking any food related decision.

Even the Bangladesh Food Systems Dashboard will provide important information of important food system index covering all the national and local level, according to an official handout.

Chaired by Director General of the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU) M Shahidul Alam, the programme was also attended, among others, by Country Director of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Dr. Rudaba Khondker, former secretary and Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Dr Namita Halder, Deputy Country Representative of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (Bangladesh) Dr. Dia Sanou, Executive Director at Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Dr Lawrence Haddad, Additional secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Manirul Islam and Additional Director General of the Department of Food M Abdullah Al Mamun.

The Bangladesh Food System Dashboard provides information on key food system indicators at the national and local levels. It can be found at https://www.foodsystemsdashboard.org/countries/bgd/subnational-data.

The Bangladesh Food systems Dashboard is being managed under the guidance of the Ministry of Food and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.
