UGC for quality higher education to reduce foreign dependency

 

DHAKA, May 14, 2024 (BSS) - The University Grant Commission of Bangladesh
(UGC) has urged the country's higher educational institution to focus on
quality education to reduce foreign dependency by achieving self-reliance in
various fields.

"Foreign dependency should be reduced by achieving self-reliance in various
fields to build a developed Bangladesh. And thus, higher educational
institutions must ensure quality education through adopting updated
curriculum to cope with the contemporary challenges," said UGC Chairman
(Additional Charge) Professor Dr Muhammad Alamgir.

He said while addressing as the chief guest at a workshop on 'Monitoring and
evidence management of Annual Performance Agreement for FY 2023-2024 and
reviewing and providing feedback on the draft action plan for the FY 2024-
2025" at the meeting room of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology
(KUET).

Advising students to increase their abilities and skills, Dr Alamgir
suggested improving the quality of higher education including making the
graduates suitable and capable for the global labor market and updating the
curriculum in line with the world in a bid to solve the country's
unemployment problems.

Chaired by the UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman, the programme was also
addressed, among others, by KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Mihir Ranjan
Halder, its Pro-VC Prof Dr. Sobhan Mia and Islamic University VC Prof Dr.
Mahbubur Rahman.
