NARSINGDI, May 18, 2024 (BSS)- Three people, including a  mother and her son, were killed and two others injured by lightning strikes at Alokbali paddy field, a remote area in? Sadar upazila of the district today.

The deceased  were identified Sharifa Begum, 48, wife of Kamal Mia of Madhyapara village of Alokbali Union and her son Emon,12, and Qayum Mia, 25,  son of Hatem Mia of Baghaikandi village of Raipura Upazila of the district.

According to the relatives of the victims, several people including Kamal Mia, his wife Sharifa and son Emon and Qayum were cutting paddy in the area around 11:30 this morning.  Suddenly, it started to rain with thunderbolts, leaving five people injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station Tanveer Ahmed said.

The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital but three of them died on the way, the OC added.
