DHAKA, May 23, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to freeze 33 bank accounts and attach properties under total 83 deeds of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his wife Zeeshan Mirza.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order, accepting a plea of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Confirming the report to BSS, counsel of the anti-graft body senior advocate Khorshed Alam Khan said the ACC had pleaded to freeze former IGP's 33 bank account and he and his wife's different properties across the country under 83 deeds.
Accepting the ACC plea, the court today passed the order.
Earlier public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir filed the petition for ACC, pleading to freeze those 33 accounts and attach properties under 83 deeds, accusing the former IGP of amassing illegal wealth of Taka hundreds of crores under his and his family members' names both at home and abroad.
The ACC in its plea said the accused are trying to sell or hand over the properties and launder the money abroad and if they succeed in doing so, the state would incur a huge loss.
