CHATTOGRAM, May 26, 2024 (BSS) - The activities of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport will remain closed till 5:30 am on Monday in view of cyclone Remal.
All operational activities of this airport have been suspended from 12 noon today to avoid possible damage by the cyclone.
The time will further extend if the situation does not improve, said Chattogram Airport Director, Group Captain Taslim Ahmed.
The decision comes in response to the issuance of danger signal number 9 by the Meteorological Department, prompting authorities to prioritize the safety of passengers and personnel.
Taslim Ahmed said, "There were eight domestic and five international flights throughout the day, including one Hajj flight. The flight schedule will be made later considering the weather conditions.
He said, "We have taken maximum precautionary measures in the security of the airport. “
It should be noted that this airport, located near the Patenga coast of the Bay of Bengal, suffered extensive damage in the catastrophic cyclone of 1991.
