Mastermind of Anar murder to be brought back with help of India: Harun

DHAKA, May 30, 2024 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid today said that Aktaruzzaman alias Shahin, the identified mastermind of the brutal murder of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, will be brought back to Bangladesh with the help of India.

"Bangladesh Police has sought help of India to bring Aktaruzzaman alias Shahin back from the United States (US) as India-US has the prisoner transfer treaty," he told the media after arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here from Kolkata this afternoon.

Earlier, a three-member probe team led by DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid visited Kolkata, India to investigate into the murder of Anwarul Azim Anar on May 26.

He informed the media that the murder investigation of lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata has been successful.

The DB chief said the investigation of 'Anar murder' has progressed a lot due to the recovery of evidence and the collection of surrounding digital data.

He hoped that the ultimate outcome will be confirmed after getting the forensic report.

Replying to another query whether he knows the current location or movement of those who participated in the killing mission, Harun said the law enforcers have analyzed the data and found that a criminal is in Kathmandu.

About the motive of the killing, he said it is not possible to tell the motive of killing the Member of Parliament right now.

On May 12, Anwarul Azim Anar went India for treatment purpose. His family couldn't communicate with him by any means two days after the lawmaker's reaching Kolkata.

Later, his family members informed the matter Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.

Subsequently, Bangladesh Police communicated with Indian Police.
Indian Police confirmed that Anar was murdered in Kolkata.
