Haileybury Bhaluka to organise MIT int'l student conference from June 11

DHAKA, June 1, 2024 (BSS) - Haileybury Bhaluka, an international British boarding school chain of the country, is going to organise the first ever five-day international student conference in Bangladesh in collaboration with the USA's Edgerton Center of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The fully residential 'MIT Leading Edge International Student Conference' is scheduled to be held from June 11-15, 2024 on Haileybury Bhaluka permanent campus in Mymensingh's Bhaluka upazila. 

In this connection, a press conference was held today at Le Meridien Hotel in the capital where Haileybury Bhaluka founding Headmaster Simon O'Grady briefed reporters about the upcoming student conference. 

Simon said that this joint initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the world's preeminent university, and Haileybury Bhaluka will significantly contribute to students' learning process and gaining new experiences.

"We are sincerely grateful to MIT's faculty members and alumni for their interest in organizing such an international student conference in Bangladesh", he added.

A total of 100 students aged 11-14 years are selected from Bangladesh, India and the United Kingdom (UK) will participate in the conference to push the engineering, innovation power to advanced level towards an effective solution.

The conference will be supervised by 6 MIT graduates, including 4 MIT faculty members.

Participating students will be exposed to various innovative activities including underwater robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered wheelchairs and handheld pollution mapping devices.

Participants will also have a unique opportunity to participate in the 'Underwater Harry Potter Quidditch Competition' from famous film Series, Harry Potter, based on the eponymous novels by British author JK Rowling.

On the last day of the conference, participants will receive certificates from MIT Edgerton Center.
