Freelancing, self-help initiatives make Afroza stand on own feet

DHAKA, June 3, 2024 (BSS) - Once Afroza bore an inadequate load of poverty because of social and structural hurdles. But, nothing could suppress her as she had an indomitable will to be something worthy in the society, leading her to involvement in several income generating works. Eventually she got success.

Afroza has tackled every odd in her life and became a successful entrepreneur. But, the path of her successfulness was not so easy.

She first established a school ten years ago. But, once, she left the school and became helpless. She was married off with her boyfriend. Her father passed away many years ago. But she didn't go to her brothers for assistance.
 
Afroza became successful fighting against a hostile environment. She always thought about the people who are living their life hand-to-mouth. She always tries to do something for them.

Later, she started to give training to the poor women on tailoring, cooking as they can do something to run their livelihood. Even, she carried out the expenses of education of orphans, persons with disabilities and poor children.
 
In the beginning, many didn't take her initiatives to be well. But she didn't stop.
 
Afroza completed a course on graphics design from an IT organization in 2014. And the course opened her eyes.
 
She said, "I did hard work after taking care of my family. I didn't understand anything. But, I had will-power to do something. I got a laptop from a lawmaker in 2017. I did a design on a corporate invoice of three colors which was recognized by codegraphe".

Later, State Minister for Information and Communications Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave her a place to start work as a freelancer.
 
She said age never creates obstacles in freelancing. She is now 48 and she works a lot at this age.
 
Afroza said people can choose anything including digital marketing, web design, web development, article writing, android apps development, graphic design, data science and analytics and virtual assistant. The scope of work freelancing is wide, she added.
 
She also said the number of women entrepreneurs is increasing day by day and 58 percent is women among the total freelancers.

Nine percent women were freelancers in 2014 and it stood at 21 percent in 2021, she continued.
 
Afroza said the women can do work from her home along with giving time to her family. But, everyone should keep patience.
 
She took trainings from two IT organizations and now she is giving trainings to the students of different universities.

"I always try to give lesson them cordially. It is very important for me. But, the freelancers should have knowledge on English as they can understand the requirements of their clients. Success must come. But you should keep patience," she said.
