Dhaka, June 5, 2024 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 7 people

including Ripon, one of the masterminds of transport theft and extortion
gang, from Kotowali Police Station area of the capital on Tuesday.

The detainees are- racket leader M. Ripon, 39, Noor Amin Rasel, 25, Jahid,
27, Dulal, 22, Rabiul Islam, 22, Nirob Hossain, 20 and Sagar 19.

During the operation, Taka 4,520 in cash and 6 different types of phone sets
were recovered from their possession.

"Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a sudden raid operation in
Babubazar area under Kotwali police station of the capital on Tuesday around
8 pm and arrested them," Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-10, MJ Sohel told
BSS this morning.

According to the RAB official, they admitted during the preliminary that,
they have been illegally extorting money in from the drivers and helpers of
various transports including inter-district trucks, covered vans, lorries and
CNG in various surrounding areas including Kotowali, South Keraniganj and
Jatrabari of the capital.

Upon not getting the money, they damaged and even theft the vehicles, he
added.

"Necessary legal action has been taken against them," the RAB official said.
