RAJSHAHI, June 5, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Nizamul Huq Nasim has called for forging social resistance against yellow journalism for national interests.
Terming yellow journalism as detrimental to the national progress and prosperity, he said journalism should be freed from all sorts of misinformation, disinformation and mal-information.
The BPC Chairman came up with the observation while addressing a training workshop for the journalists working in print and electronic media here today as the chief guest.
BPC organised the workshop titled "Yellow Journalism Prevention and Objective Journalism in Mass-media" at the Circuit House Conference Hall here.
Justice Nizamul Huq Nasim opined that all the working journalists should have proper knowledge and ideas about the media ethics before writing reports on any specific issue so that they could be freed from any defamation case.
He told the attending journalists that they are working to amend the BPC law for the greater interests of the country's media and its people. "We are adamant for protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the media people," he added.
Justice Nizamul also said that they are working relentlessly to prepare a list of the working journalists throughout the country for restoring a disciplined situation in this sector.
"We need spontaneous and wholehearted cooperation and support of the media owners and editors for preparing a flawless list of their journalists," he mentioned.
Conducting a training session as a resource person, BPC Secretary Shyamol Chandra Karmakar illustrated the aspects of objective journalism along with negative impacts of yellow journalism.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sarker Omor Faruque, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kolyan Chowdhury, Director of the Department of Mass Communication Farhad Hossain and Deputy Principal Information Officer Muhammad Touhiduzzaman also spoke on the occasion.
