NETROKONA, June 05, 2024 (BSS) - Shafi Ahmed, former member of the Liberation War affairs sub-committee of Awami League and former general secretary of JSD Chhatra League central committee, was laid to eternal rest at Netrokona municipality graveyard here today.
The body of Shafi Ahmed was taken to central Shahid Minar at Dhaka on Tuesday noon where leaders and workers of Awami League, JSD and Workers Party and different political parties and socio-cultural organizations paid their last respect to him placing floral wreaths on his coffin.
The body reached at Netrokona district town through a freezing ambulance from Dhaka in the afternoon on the aforesaid day.
Then it was taken to local Muktarpara ground here to facilitate people of all walks of life to pay homage to him for last time.
A large number of local people including political leaders, public representatives, freedom fighters and civil society members paid their last respect to him placing floral wreaths on his coffin.
The first Namaj-e-Janaza of the deceased was held at Uttara, Dhaka at 10.45 PM on Monday night, the second Namaj-e-Janaza was held at Dhaka University central mosque premises at 11 AM on Tuesday and the third Namaj-e- Janaza was held at local Muktarpara ground here after Maghrib prayers on the day and the fourth Namaj-e-Janaza was held at Madan upazila parishad premises at 10 AM today.
Shafi Ahmed,62, breathed his last Monday evening following a heart attack at his residence at Uttara, Dhaka, said a press release.
He left behind wife, two sons and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Shafi Ahmed was a student of Dhaka University and participated in mass movement against former dictator government in 1990.
