DHAKA, June 18, 2024 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said that the huge task of removing sacrificial animal waste has been transformed into a competition to provide services.
"We have been able to transform a huge task like waste removal into a competition to provide services. We have fixed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in terms of time criteria for ward wise animal waste disposal," he told a virtual press conference over the sacrificial animal waste removal operations.
Noting that the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has completed waste removal of the sacrificial animals slaughtered on the first day much ahead of the stipulated time, the mayor said waste of seven cattle markets out of 11 has already been removed and rest of the waste will be disposed of by tonight.
Replying to a question of journalist over abandoned waste in different places, Taposh said, "The people slaughtered sacrificial animals at different times. There are some isolated instances that some people throw sacrificial animal waste here and there after we completed the waste removal operation".
Besides, some people slaughtered their sacrificial animals on the second and the third day of the Eid-ul-Azha, he said, adding, "But, we announced the completion of the waste removal operation after disposing 100 percent of the waste. So, it is not right that waste of the first day was not removed."
The mayor thanked DSCC councilors, officials, cleaning workers and the city dwellers for making the waste removal operation a success.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Mizanur Rahman and Panel Mayor and 46 no ward councilor Md Shahid Ullah spoke at the virtual press conference.
