SANGSAD BHABAN, July 3, 2024 (BSS) - The third session which was also the budget session for FY2024-25 of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad was prorogued today after nineteenth sittings as the session begins on June 5.

The Jatiya Sangsad's (JS) session was convened aiming to place the national budget for 2024-25 fiscal year while the sittings were suspended for six days on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul Azha.

Before reading out the prorogation order of the President, a radio speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was played in the House, which Bangabandhu delivered on June 26, 1972 at a sports function at Azimpur Girl's School in the city.

The speech of Bangabandhu was collected from the Bangladesh Betar as the duration of the address was 13 minutes 52 seconds.
 
Leader of the House Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her valedictory speech at the closing of the session. Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader also spoke.

After placing the national budget of Taka 7,97,000 crore by Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali for 2024-25 fiscal year on June 6, setting the GDP growth target at 6.8 percent aiming to curb higher inflation at 6.5 percent, a formal discussion was held on the proposed budget in the House where 236 ruling Awami League and opposition Jatiya Party lawmakers participated in the budget discussion.

Before passed the proposed budget on June 30, long 40 hours and forty-seven minutes discussion was held on the proposed budget at the parliament.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed deep respect to the architect of Independent Bangladesh Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, 10-year-old child Sheikh Russell along with the family members who were assassinated on August 15, 1975.

She remembered 30 lakh martyrs and two lakh mothers and sisters who have lost their dignity during the liberation war in 1971.

At the same time, the Speaker remembered the four national leaders along with all the martyrs including the dedicated heroes of the language movement of '52 and democratic movements.

Along with enactment of the laws, seven bills were passed during the nineteenth working session.
 
Along with the legal procedure, a total of 105 important notices were received in the session under section 71.

A total of 117 questions were received where 67 were available for the prime minister's question and answer session and 2,300 for other ministers were received and 1,522 were answered by the ministers of the different ministries during the session.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also thanked all MPs, officials, journalists, law enforcers and fire service and civil defense personnel for their services rendered for smoothly holding of the parliament session.
