DHAKA, July 5, 2024 (BSS) - President Mohammed Shahabuddin has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman.

 
In a condolence message this evening, the President termed the death of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman an irreparable loss to sports, specially chess.

The Head of State said his contribution to the development of chess in Bangladesh will be remembered forever.

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Grandmaster Ziaur passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest while competing in the 12th round match of the National Chess Championship at the Chess Federation Hall in the capital this evening.

He was 50.
