DHAKA, July 10, 2024 (BSS) - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources today lauded the Ministry of Water Resources for its sincere and relentless efforts to tackle the severe cyclonic storm 'Remal' that wreaked havoc recently in the country, particularly, in the coastal areas.
The parliamentary watchdog praised the ministry at the 5th meeting of the committee of the 12th parliament at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair, said a press release here.
The committee members impressed with the Ministry of Water Resources for starting work immediately after the collapse of embankments on the coastal areas along with working tirelessly during the cyclone 'Remal'.
In the meeting, the progress report titled 'Rehabilitation and Expansion of Command Area of Teesta Irrigation Project', measures taken to excavate Teesta River in Dalia and Irrigation and Drainage Development Project at Purbadhala upazila, Netrakona district were presented, added the press release.
Committee members State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Md Afzal Hossain, Nurunnabi Chowdhury, Soumendra Prosad Pandey, Ranjit Chandra Sarker, A B M Ruhul Amin Howlader and Najneen Nahar Rashid joined the meeting.
Additional Secretary of Water Resources Ministry, Director General of Bangladesh Water Development Board, senior officials of Water Resources Ministry and National Parliament Secretariat concerned were also present.
