DHAKA, June 28, 2021(BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today requested for not carrying extra rider on motorcycle except its driver in a bid to stem the spread of the COVID-19.
The DMP made the request as the sharing of rides on motorcycles and repeated use of a same helmet by different people increases the risk of extensive spread of the global pandemic coronavirus, according to a DMP press release.
"It has been noticed that the people are sharing rides with their familiar motorcyclists amid the lockdown. Or someone is sharing rides for professional reasons. As a result, different people are using the same helmet repeatedly. This increases the risk of coronavirus infection," said the release.
Considering the current situation during this upward trend of COVID-19 infection in the second wave, it said, the DMP is discouraging the motorcyclists in the capital from carrying extra riders on their motorbikes.
The DMP requested the commuters to use rickshaws as transport maintaining health guidelines.
Earlier on Sunday, the Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification imposing a countrywide ban on the movement of all public transports except goods carriers and rickshaws from 6am of June 28 to 6am of July 1 in a bid to contain the coronavirus (Covid-19) spread.
