CHATTOGRAM, Sept 29, 2021 (BSS) - The government, led by Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, passed the Right to Information Act in the Jatiya Sangsad with the aim of ensuring transparency and accountability in the country soon after taking office in 2009.
Later, it took necessary steps for its proper implementation as per the provisions of the law.
The speakers expressed their views at a seminar organized by the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's Office held its auditorium on Tuesday on the occasion of International Right to Information Day.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman presided over the function while Professor ABM Abu Noman, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Chattogram, presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Dr. Prakash Kanti Chowdhury, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue), delivered the welcome speech while Kalim Sarwar, bureau chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Chattogram and former president of Chattogram Press Club addressed the function as the main speaker.
Deputy Director of Local Government Mohammad Delwar Hossain, CEO of Chattogram Zila Parisad Sabbir Iqbal, General Manager of Bangladesh Television Chattogram Nitai Kumar Bhattacharya, Deputy Director of Primary Education Directorate Dr. Shafiqul Islam, Principal of Omargani MES College ANM Sarwar Alam, Director of Islamic Foundation Borhan Uddin, FBCCI Representative Mahfuzul Haque Shah, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Manjurul Huda, BRAC department head Nazrul Islam and IPSA Representative Mohammad Ali Shahin, among others, took part in the discussion.
Professor Abu Noman said that the Right to Information Act passed in Bangladesh in 2009 is a complete law.
“It prioritizes the right of the general public to information side by side with making the administration accountable. The law that passed in 2009 reflects the vision of Sheikh Hasina's visionary government,” he added.
