Water level in 34 rivers rises, 71 falls: FFWC

DHAKA, July 16, 2024 (BSS)-Water levels at 34 river stations monitored by
Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked rise while 71
stations recorded fall.

Among the 110 monitored river stations, water levels at five stations have remained steady while four stations are flowing above the danger level, a bulletin issued by the FFWC said here today.
 
The Jamuna River at Jagannathganj (Jamalpur), the Kushiyara at Markuli, the Someshwari at Kalmakanda and the Meghna at Meghna Bridge (Munshiganj ) are flowing 47cm, 12cm, 06cm and 06 above the danger level respectively.

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers are in falling trend, which may continue in next 72 hours, the FFWC said adding the Ganges river is in rising trend, while water level of Padma river is in steady state which may continue in next 24 hours.

 The major rivers in the North-eastern region of the country are in falling trend overall, which may continue in next 48 hours.

 In next 24 hours, flood situation at low-lying areas adjacent to Brahmaputra-Jamuna river of Jamalpur district may improve.

 In next 24 hours, water level of Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in the Northern region of the country may fall and rivers may flow in normal condition.

 In next 48 hours, overall flood situation in different low-lying areas of North-eastern region of the country may improve.

Significant rainfall was recorded at some stations in different districts during the last 24 hours ending at 9 am today.

A total of 260 mm of rainfall were recorded at Dakhinbagh (Moulvibazar), 85mm at Latu (Sylhet), 62mm at Manurlybr (Moulibazar), 50mm at Chanpurbagan (Moulivibazar), 110mm at Zakiganj (Sylhet), 71mm at Kamalganj (Moulvibazar), 57mm at Sreemongal (Moulibazar) and 40mm at Moulvibazar.

During the last 24 hours, significant rainfalls (mm) were recorded in some states like West Bengal, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam of India, the bulletin added.
