JU closed sine die, students asked to vacate halls

SAVAR, July 17, 2024 (BSS)- Jahangirnagar University (JU) was declared closed for an indefinite period amid the ongoing protest for quota reform.

The university authorities also asked the students to vacate their halls of residence by 4pm today.

An office order signed by JU registrar Abu Hasan confirmed the matter this noon.

The decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting of the university presided over by JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nurul Alam.

"Considering the security of the students, authorities have decided to close the university indefinitely and evacuate the halls," said the statement.

Defying the university’s announcement, several thousand students of the university continued their demonstration in front of the university administration building.
