DU students leave dormitories

DHAKA, July 16, 2024 (BSS) – Almost all the students of 17 halls of Dhaka University have left the halls following the university directives amid the unstable situation in the campus.

Students of all the 12 male halls have already left their dormitories by 7am while there are a very handful of female students in the Rokeya hall and Shamsunnah Hall who will leave the halls by tomorrow morning, said the hall provosts.

“As per the information we have, almost all the students have safely left their halls by 7pm,” said Hazi Mohammad Mohsin hall provost Dr Masudur Rahman.     

"All the students have already left the hall and we have also locked the front gate of the dormitory," Provost of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haqye Hall Prof Dr Abdur Rahim told BSS.

Meanwhile in the evening, the Dhaka university authorities issued a press release thanking the students of all the dormitories except the International hall for leaving the dorms peacefully.   

Earlier, in the morning, the university authorities closed the campus sine die for safety of the students and asked them to vacate the halls by 6:00 this evening as the quota protesters vandalized the rooms of the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in all the 17 halls of the university excluding the international hall.
