Judicial probe committee holds maiden meeting

DHAKA, July 24, 2024 (BSS) - The judicial probe committee, formed to investigate the violence and loss of lives during the anarchic situation marking the recent quota reform movement, has held its maiden meeting today.
 
The committee led by High Court Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman, held the meeting at the Supreme Court auditorium this noon.
 
"The government formed this committee under section 3 of The Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956. The commission has started its operation already and people can send information, evidences of violence, looting, arson carried out from July 5 to July 16 and evidences to identify the causes and killers behind the six deaths those took place on July 16, through e-mail," Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman told newsmen after the meeting.
 
"We would call for such information from the citizens through mass advertisements and would mention in the advertisements the types of information to send. We would also let people know our regular activities through press releases," he added.
 
Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman hoped that the commission would perform its duties with honesty, dedication and transparency and sought help from all the authorities concerned including media in this regard.
 
Cabinet division (Coordination & Reform) Secretary Mahmudul Hasan Khan, additional secretary Jaheda Pervin, deputy secretary Tanvir Ahmed and High Court Division registrars Moshiar Rahman were present at the meeting, among others.
