RAB arrests 228 over recent mayhem

DHAKA, July 25, 2024 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a total of 228 anarchists in the last 5 days by carrying out raids across the country for their alleged involvement in violence and vandalism during the quota movement.

RAB nabbed 228 people across the country, said director and spokesperson of legal and media wing of the elite force Munim Ferdous today, adding, of them 55 people were arrested in Dhaka and 173 from various parts of the country.

Earlier, members of RAB detained four people from Mirpur and Badda areas of the capital, as they carried out violence in recent days using the quota reform movement.

The arrested are Gana Odhikar Parishad Joint Member Secretary Tareq Rahman, 31, his associate Md Sajal Miah, 24, Al Faisal Rocky, 27, and Md Ariful Islam, 30.

Besides, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) also arrested nine persons, including two persons, who were directly involved in the arson attacks and vandalism at Setu Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday.
