RAJSHAHI, July 28, 2024 (BSS) - Rajshahi University (RU) Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar today visited the residential halls and other establishments affected and vandalized during the quota reform movement.
The VC, accompanied by Pro-VC Prof Humayun Kabir, Science Faculty Dean Prof Nasima Akhter, Registrar Prof Tariqul Hassan, Proctor Prof Asabul Haque and Students Adviser Prof Jahangir Alam Saud, visited the badly affected Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardi Hall, Madar Bauksha Hall and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, VC Prof Golam Sabbir said at least 158 rooms of 10 residential halls have been vandalized during the quota reform movement causing a financial loss of around Taka four crore.
He said they have constituted a five-member probe committee to investigate the incidents of damaging and setting fire.
Dean of the Social Science Faculty Prof SM Ekramullah and Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Prof Mozammel Hossain were made convener and member-secretary respectively of the committee that has been given an eight-week time for submitting the report.
VC Prof Golam Sabbir said provosts of the 10 residential halls have submitted preliminary reports of losses, adding that some halls were affected badly which will shock anyone.
There is an urgent need of repairing and renovating the affected halls before reopening those for the students. Necessary initiatives were taken for repairing those as early as possible, he mentioned.
