DHAKA, July 29, 2024 (BSS) - A court has convicted and sentenced four people to life imprisonment in a case lodged over the murder of Tanvir Mahtab Ishrak in Tangail.
 
The four convicts are Abu Foysal, Amit Hasan, Ariful Islam Anik and Khandaker Mehedi Hasan Novel.
 
Judge Rafikul Islam of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 pronounced the judgment in the presence of the four convicts and sent them back to jail with the conviction warrant.
 
Ishrak, a second-year Diploma in Textile Engineering student, used to live at his maternal grandfather's house and study from there. On February 5, 2020, one Sohanur Rahman Sohan phoned him to meet in front of a municipal park in the Tangail sadar area. As Ishrak reached the place, the convicts started hacking him indiscriminately, killing him on the spot.
 
Ishrak's father filed the case with Tangail sadar police station the next day. Police in their investigation found that Sohan orchestrated the whole killing as Ishrak and his friend earlier beat him and made him to leave the area.
 
Police later filed charge sheet against six. Of the six, as Sohan and Naimur Rahman Himel were underaged, they are being tried in children's court.
