DNCC to support victims of quota movement

DHAKA, July 29, 2024 (BSS)- Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will stand beside the students and their families who were killed and injured during the quota reform movement on priority basis in a bid to bring back congenial atmosphere in the educational institutions under its jurisdiction.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam made the announcement after holding a views exchange meeting at his office in Gulshan-2 with vice-chancellors of 36 universities and principals of 117 colleges of DNCC area.

Atiqul said the DNCC organized the meeting at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to find the way to restore congenial atmosphere in the educational institutions of his area.

The mayor said the city corporation will submit a report to the government on the suggestions came from the meeting.

The DNCC sought information from the teachers about the slain and injured students, Atiqul said, adding that the city corporation would jointly work with the teachers to reach out the assistance to the students and their families.  

Teachers suggested for extending financial, legal and medical support to the affected students and families of the slain students, launching online classes and increasing cultural and sports activities in the educational institutions.

They also called for proper investigation to find out the facts behind the incident, build up strong bond among teachers, students and guardians, imbuing students with patriotism and reopening of all educational institutions.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs Naheed Ezaher Khan was present.
