AL UK unit holds rally in London protesting Bangladesh violence

DHAKA, July 30, 2024 (BSS) - The United Kingdom (UK) Awami League (AL) unit has organized a rally in front of the parliament building in London protesting the recent violence and destructive activities carried out by BNP-Jammat in Bangladesh centering the quota reform movement.

Several thousands of people from different social, cultural and human rights organizations have participated in the rally, a release received here today.

British parliament leaders including Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Caroline Fiona Ellen Nokes, Labour politician Paulette Adassa Hamilton, MP, Minister of State Jim McMahon, MP, British Labour party politician Mohammed Afzal Khan, MP, Richard Burgon, MP and Lee Anderson MP came and met with the organisers of the rally.

The British parliament members have also discussed the current situation of Bangladesh with the UK unit AL leaders.

The AL leaders, as well, handed over a memorandum to the British parliament members.

The British leaders said they are well informed about the matter and they will discuss it with utmost importance.

Chaired by UK unit AL President Sultan Mahmud Sharif, the rally also was addressed, among others, by its Vice Presidents Alhaz Jalal Uddin, Harmuj Ali, Joint General Secretaries Nayeem Uddin Riaz, Maruf Ahmed Chowdhury, Organizing secretary Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, London unit AL President Nurul Huq Lala Mia, London unit Jubo League President Fakrul Islam Modhu, Chhatra League President Tamim Ahmad, Mahila League General Secretary Shahin Akhter and other associate bodies leaders of AL.

UK unit AL General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruque moderated it.

The speakers said BNP-Jammat tried to unleash a civil war in Bangladesh centering the quota reform movement. So, BNP-Jammat must have to take the responsibility of the fatalities, they said.

The leaders also have demanded thorough investigation of the death incidents, saying that the matter comes before the nation through proper investigation.
