Felling trees should be avoided in projects' implementation: Saber Chowdhury

DHAKA July 30, 2024 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister
Saber Hossain Chowdhury today said the implementation of the government's
development projects should avoid felling trees.

During the implementation of the project, more trees should be planted if
there is scope, he said.

The environment minister made the remarks while speaking at a review meeting
of the implementation progress of the projects included in the ADP for the
fiscal year 2024-25 of the ministry till June.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate
Change here this afternoon, a ministry press release said.

Speaking as the chief guest, Saber said the project directors who have
successfully implemented the development project of his ministry will be
given recognition to the qualified officials considering their efficiency and
success in performance.

He said the ministry's development projects should be implemented on time and
properly to improve the quality of the country's environment.

"Work should be done accordingly at the beginning of the financial year. The
success rate in project implementation should be gradually increased," he
said.

The minister discussed the current status, achievements and challenges of the
projects, urging all concerned to play a more responsible and effective role.

Chaired by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed,
the meeting was attended, among others, by Additional Secretary
(Administration) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Development) Md
Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Secretary (Environment) Dr Fahmida Khanom,
Director General of the Department of Environment Dr Abdul Hamid and Chief
Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury.
