‘Swapnasiri shows light to the street children’

DHAKA, Aug 1, 2024 (BSS)- Swapnasiri, a voluntary organisation, initiated by the
students of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), and Carmichael College, is
showing the path of light to the deprived street children since 2018.

These street children were used to collect plastic materials like various kinds of bottles and polythene Left on footpaths in the town. Some of them were used to begging and some were working as House maids.

Many street children engaged themselves also in various criminal activities. Some of them have no father, mother or parents. Swapnasiri has been working with these children and trying to give them a normal life.

A group of students of BRUR and Carmichael College, under the platform of Swapnasiri are teaching them alongside giving moral education. They are bringing the street children to the light of hope from the world of darkness.   

Members of the  Swapnasiri opened a school for the street children at Babupara Rail Station of Rangpur. Street children are taught on every Friday and Saturday from 3:30 pm to the evening. A total of 35 students of Begum Rokeya University and Carmichael College are teaching 65 children at the school regularly.     

Swapnasiri school was inaugurated on March 3, 2018, with the slogan  ‘Extend our hand to humanity, Our goal is to touch the sky’.  

Swapnasiri Members  distribute books, pen, exercise books, and bags among the
street children. They take examinations of the students of  Swapnasiri  school regularly and give awards to the passed students based on their merits. They also manage food for the street children during the school time. Members of the school also discuss with street children’s local guardians.      

One of the Children Suman, who is being taught at the Swapnasiri school said, “ I read at the school on every Friday and Saturday. I have learned here how to respect seniors and speak the truth. All brothers and sisters (teachers) love us so much.

Carmichael College student Rashidul Islam Ripan said  Swapnasiri  has been working with the reputation for the marginalized people of the society. It has been working to ensure the education of the deprived children from the very beginning of the organisation. Besides, volunteers of the Swapnasiri have been doing various social activities. Members of Swapnasiri believe that the participation of everyone is needed to build a humanitarian society.

Jemy Akter, a student of the Bangla Department of Begum Rokeya University said,  I feel good when  I come here and teach the children. I feel proud to be a member of
 Swapnasiri and participate in various social activities.

BRUR Finance and Banking Department student Md Nazmus Sakib said, Swapnasiri  is
another name of my good feelings and emotions. I find mental peace and happiness here by contributing to the street and poor children.   

Swapnasiri’s general secretary Fatihul Islam Shuvon said his organisation has been working for the marginalized people of the society. It always stand by the street children and poor people of the society and do various social activities through their volunteers.   

G M Imrus, president of Swapnasiri, said, ‘From the very beginning,
Of Swapnasiri has been working to ensure basic education of the deprived children in the society. We want to move forward with this organization and enlighten more street children. As the president of the organization I want cooperation from all for the street children.
