6 including Rizvi, Parwar remanded in Setu Bhaban vandalizing case

DHAKA, Aug 1, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed six leaders of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami on three-day remand each in a case lodged over vandalizing and setting Setu Bhaban in the capital's Banani area on fire on July 18.

The six remanded accused are- BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, its organizing secretary Qazi Sayedul Alam Babul, publicity affairs secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Dhaka north city unit member secretary Aminul Haque, BNP's Bagerhat district convener MA Salam and Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Miah Golam Parwar.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order as police produced the six before the court after end of their five-day remand in a case for vandalizing Kazipara Metro Rail Station in the capital's Mirpur and pleaded to show them arrested in Setu Bhaban attack case and place them on seven-day remand.

A mob of 250/300 people on July 18 stormed into the premises of Setu Bhaban, vandalized many vehicles, and motorbikes, ransacked different sheds and rooms, and later set those on fire. They attacked and beat many employees black and blue.
