Police sues 1200 on charge of killing constable Sumon

KHULNA, Aug 03, 2024(BSS) - Police filed a case last night with Labanchara Police Station against 1200 people on charge of killing constable Sumon Kumar Gharami.

Mostafa Saklain, Sub-Inspector of the Police Station filed the case, but, none was arrested yet to this end, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station Momtazul Haque confirmed this to BSS today.

On Friday, a large number of people under the banner of “anti-discrimination students movement” involved in fierce clash with police in different areas of the city.

The clash erupted when they swooped on police at Gallamary, zero point area as the law enforcement agencies barricaded their mass procession, the OC said.

The processionists threw brick bats and attacked with bamboo sticks and iron rods targeting to on-duty police. The law enforcement agencies responded with baton charge, sound grenades, tear gas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

During the clash, Police constable Sumon and 20 others police personnel were sustained serious injuries. Later, they were rushed to Khulna City Medical College Hospital where Constable Sumon was declared death.

His body was handed over to his family members today after autopsy.
