Physicians, nurse, officials-employees are for peace, against terrorist: BSMMU VC 

DHAKA, Aug 3, 2024 (BSS) - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Deen Mohd Noorul Huq today said that all of BSMMU are in favor of peace and against terrorist.

"We are for peace, against terrorism. We support the logical demands of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Almost all the demands of the students have been fulfilled. You have to be patient to implement the rest of the demands. We all should give some time to the government to this end," he said.

The BSMMU VC said these while addressing a peace rally organized by doctors, officers, nurses and employees at Central Shaheed Minar here.

"We want restoration of peace in the country," he said, adding that but the students' movement is grabbed by evil forces. 

He said these evil-forces have damaged the development of the country.

Teachers, doctors, officers, nurses and employees of BSMMU, Dhaka Medical College, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and various medical colleges and institutions including BSMMU former VC Professor Dr Mahmud Hasan, former VC Professor Dr Kanak Kanti Baru, VC (Academic) Professor Dr Md Atiqur Rahman, 

VC (Research and Development) Professor Dr Moniruzzaman Khan, former president of Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (SWACHIP) Dr M Iqbal Arslan, former Secretary General Professor Dr M A Aziz and Dean Professor Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi and Deans Professor Dr Md Hossain, Professor Dr Chayef Uddin Ahmad, Professor Dr Ahsan Habib Helal, 

Professor Dr Laila Anjuman Banu, Professor Dr Nazir Uddin Mollah, Dr Ariful Islam Jawadar Tito, Dr Nirupam Chowdhury, Dr Zakir Hossain Sumon, Dr Nazia Mehnaz Jyoti, Dr Jahan Shams Nitol, Dr Sharmin Akhter Sumi and Dr Ehsanul Kabir Sumon took part in the peace rally.

SWACHIP former Secretary General Dr M A Aziz said that a judicial committee has been formed to investigate the incidents of killing-injuring students.

The government has taken responsibility of the relatives of those killed, he added.

The students participating in this anti-discrimination student movement made it clear that they (students) were not involved with those who committed violence and destructive activities amid movement.

"This movement is not their (student's) movement," he said.
