DHAKA, August 10, 2024 (BSS) - Interim government Advisor Dr Asif Nazrul, who
is in charge of the law ministry, has said Chief Justice (CJ) should decide
his own fate now considering the force that defeated the autocratic
governments.
"This force earlier compelled the former government to step down and flee. It
is now upon him, whether to resign or not considering the fact that the same
force is protesting at his door right now," Dr Nazrul said.
He said this while interacting with the officials at his Secretariat office
today after taking charge as the advisor of the ministry under the interim
government.
"I have heard he called a full court meeting today without consulting the
interim government advisors. Earlier [during the movement], the CJ commented
"Why all these protests?" Also, accepting flowers as BCL gifts from the
former DB Chief questioned his neutral position to the commoners."
"We believe that the Supreme Court is the greatest institution for the
protection of our human rights. No one should stand against the mass movement
or mass uprising of the students as it was a fight for fair play and rights,"
he said.
Emphasizing the reform of the Election Commission (EC), Dr Nazrul said:
"Keeping in mind the issues of reformation and ensuring participatory
elections, I will carry forward the activities from my place with due
responsibility."
