CHATTOGRAM, Aug 17, 2024 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today placed former ,MP, MA Latif on a three-day remand in a case filed over shooting and injuring a protester during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chattogram.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb granted three days remand after police produced him before the court and sought seven-day remand, said Mafiz Uddin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Prosecution.
Earlier, one quota reform movement activist Md Ershad filed a case with the Double-mooring thana accusing MA Latif and 15 others identified accused on Friday over bullet injuries sustained during the student-citizen uprising.
The plaintiff in the case alleged that the accused led by Latif, a former lawmaker from Chattogram 11 (Bandar-Patenga) constituency, attacked a group of quota reform activists at Dhanialapara on August 4.
They opened fire, attacked the activists and blasted cocktails at that time, the case added.
The plaintiff sustained bullet in the attack, the source claimed.
Quader Patwari, officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring thana, said that MA Latif was detained on Friday night in the Bayezid Bostami area of the city and brought before the court for questioning.
He was produced before the court with seven days remand petition.
The court granted three days remand after the hearing, OC Patwari added.
