Nagarik Oikya demands necessary reforms before holding polls

RANGPUR, Aug 19, 2024 (BSS) - Nagarik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna today demanded bringing necessary reforms in the state system before holding a parliamentary election in the country.

"We are not greedy to power that the polls should be held within six months," he told reporters after offering ziarat at the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed, who was killed in police firing during the quota reform movement, at Babanpur village under Pirganj upazila.

Manna said to build a new Bangladesh, cherished by students-people, the interim government should hold a general election after bringing reforms in all sectors including judiciary, education and economy.

"We have faith in the interim government. We are not thirsted for power," he said.

Ganatantra Manch coordinator Hasnat Qayyum, Bhashani Anusari Parishad convener Rafiqul Islam Bablu and Ganasanghati Rangpur zilla secretary Mufakkharul Islam Mamun were, among others, present.
