Anti-corruption committee for making all sectors free from corruption

DHAKA, Aug 20, 2024 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption National Coordination Committee has called for establishing rule of law by making all sectors of the country free from corruption.

The anti-corruption platform made the call today at a rally in front of the National Museum in the city's Shahbagh area, said a press release.

Convener of the Anti-Corruption National Coordination Committee Sarwar Wadud Chowdhury presided over the rally while national figures like Qaiyum Raja Chowdhury, Rafiqul Islam, ABM Mostafa Amin, Abul Kalam Azad, and Setara Rezvi Laki spoke at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarwar Wadud Chowdhury hailed Nobel laureate and globally renowned personality Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus for taking the charge as the chief adviser to the interim government on August 8.

At the rally, he placed an 11-point demand to the interim government outlining the process of making the country corruption free and establishing the rule of law.

The demands included establishing rule of law by eradicating corruption in all sectors of the country, the judiciary must be completely freed from political and party influence and forming a banking commission as soon as possible to reform the banking sector.

The platform also demanded reformation of the Anti-Corruption Commission, making the Election Commission independent, impartial and stronger, formation of an education commission with qualified and impartial persons to reform the country's education system and reforming the Public Service Commission, ensuring transparency in the examination process under the commission.

The demands of the anti-corruption platform also included providing further policy support to the ready-made garment sector, making amendment and reform to the country's constitution, holding a transparent, impartial and credible election under the interim government and determining the numbers of casualties, including, deaths and injuries, in the student-mass people movement by forming an independent commission under the United Nations (UN).

The true history of the initiation, implementation and the heart-wrenching killings centering the anti-discrimination movement must be included in the textbooks, the demands included.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption National Coordination Committee brought out an anti-corruption procession from Shahbagh square, which ended at Raju Bhaskarjya on Dhaka University (DU) campus.
