HABIGANJ, Aug 21, 2024 (BSS) - A murder case has been filed here against 261 people, including former member of parliament (MP) of Habiganj-3 constituency and Awami League (AL) president of the district Advocate Md. Abu Zahir for killing Mostak Ahmed, during the anti-discrimination student movement.

S. M Mamun Mia, resident of Umednagar area of the district town, filed the murder case as the plaintiff at the Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station last night. Former MP Advocate Md. Abu Zahir has been made the main accused in the case.

On August 2, from 3 pm to 6 pm, the anti-discrimination students held a rally and protest march in Tin Kona Pukurpar area of ??the district town. At that time, Mostak Ahmed was shot and many others were injured by the leaders of Jubo League, Chhatra League, Krishak League and former MP Advocate Md. Abu Zahir.

Later, Mostak Ahmed he was taken to Habiganj 250-bed Modern District Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Noore Alam confirmed the matter.

Apart from this, the accused in case also included 150 more unidentified persons including leaders, activists, public representatives of the district, upazila Awami League and other organizations.

The other accused of the case are - District Jubo League President and former chairman of Baniachang Upazila Parishad Abul Kashem Chowdhury, former chairman of Habiganj Sadar Upazila Parishad and district Awami League leader Motachhirul Islam, former mayor of Habiganj Municipal and joint general secretary of district Awami League Ataur Rahman Salim, district Awami League Leader Shah Newaz, Habiganj District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Md. Alamgir Chowdhury, Lakhai Upazila Parishad former chairman and Upazila Awami League President Advocate Mushfiul Alam Azad, Habiganj Municipality former Mayor and Municipal Awami League Former Organizing Secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizan, UP Chairman of 13 Mandari union Sheikh Samsul Haque, former Joint General Secretary of District Chhatra League and former MP Abu Zahir's son Rifat Jamil, Abdur Rashid Talukdar Iqbal, former Chairman of Shaistaganj Upazila Parishad and President of Upazila Awami League, Iqbal Hossain, former Chairman of Baniachong Upazila Parishad and former General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Iqbal Hossan Khan, District Jubo League General Secretary Moin Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury Sumon, Habiganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry President and District Awami League Treasurer Mizanur Rahman Shamim.
