Travel embargo imposed against Taqsem A Khan

DHAKA, Aug 22, 2024 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today imposed 60-day travel embargo on former managing director (MD) and CEO of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

"The ACC is probing allegations of corruption, plundering of crores of money against Taqsem and others. It was learned that the Taqsem is trying to escape the country and that is why the ACC has filed the plea," public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said.

Taqsem was first appointed as the MD and CEO of Dhaka WASA in 2009. In spite of allegations of gross misconduct and graft, his term was extended a couple of time. His term was extended for another three years in August, 2023. Recently after the ouster of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he finally resigned from the post.
